The need for the health system to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances
According to Webda reporter, Dr. Hossein-Ali Shahriri, Head of the Health and Treatment Commission of the Iranian Parliament, during a joint meeting with officials from the Ministry of Health, while expressing appreciation for the efforts of the healthcare system during the holy month of Ramadan, addressed some current concerns in the pharmaceutical sector.
He stated: "Given the country's current conditions, precise planning is essential to ensure the timely supply of medicines and effective resource management, so that health and treatment services can be delivered to the public without interruption."
Emphasizing the importance of sustaining the pharmaceutical supply chain, he added: "Medicine is among the most critical needs of the people and must be prioritized in planning efforts. In this regard, coordination among relevant agencies and foresight in securing necessary resources will play a decisive role in preventing potential challenges."
He noted that in specialized meetings held recently, arrangements have been made to supply a portion of these medications in the coming months; however, more urgent and effective measures are still required in this area.
The Head of the Parliamentary Health and Treatment Commission also highlighted the necessity of continuous and effective management of health and treatment centers, particularly in provinces experiencing surges in patient referrals under special circumstances. He stated: "Strengthening the healthcare system's preparedness to respond to exceptional conditions is among the key issues that must be pursued with a forward-looking perspective."
Dr. Shahriri further emphasized the crucial role of human resources in delivering health services, calling for greater attention to the status of medical residents and healthcare staff. He added: "These groups play a vital role in service delivery, and supporting them can lead to improved quality of care."
He continued: "Medical residents are fundamental pillars of hospital service provision and have endured significant hardships under recent conditions. Therefore, a serious review of their livelihood conditions and compensation is necessary."
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of sustained interaction and synergy between the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) and the Ministry of Health to enhance health services and better respond to the public's needs.
